April Flowers
2020
Mixed media (acrylic, wood, silk, beads, paper, ink, foam, clay) on panel
6" x 6" x 2"
This little piece was created during Spring of 2020 as the Covid-19 lockdown went into place. I was fortunate to have a garden in full bloom, which served as an oasis during that difficult time and certainly influenced this work; however, using all-black tones is an unusual choice for me and attests to the the anxiety and uncertainty I was feeling. Although born of anxiety, it looks like a beautiful jewel, an expression of hope. This work was part of the "Uncertainty" exhibit at Viridian Artists gallery, New York, November 2020.
